No-exam life insurance

Which applicants qualify for the rapid underwriting process, how the process unfolds, and what happens if you don't.

Numerous carriers provide accelerated underwriting: when you're within their age and amount parameters, they render a choice based on your application, prescription database, driving record and similar sources, bypassing the physical paramedical exam. Outcomes may arrive the same day. Each quote here notes whether that product calls for a required exam, a conditional exam, or no exam at all.

What it changes

Omitting the exam does not bypass underwriting checks. Responses you provide are validated, and policies built on false information can be challenged in the first two years. If a carrier's own data uncovers issues, they can still request an exam or lab tests, and you may choose whether to proceed.

Who tends to qualify

The typical candidate: under about 60 years old, seeking an amount within the carrier's fast-track limit, with no significant health events and no nicotine use for at least a year. Recent bloodwork from a doctor's appointment can substitute for an exam at some carriers.

Should an exam be needed, a paramedic typically arrives at your home or workplace for twenty to thirty minutes, charging you nothing. Strong test results often bump healthy people to a better rate class, making the exam a positive event.
